Last night I was transported by silver screen to the New York Met for the Opening Gala which starts their 125th season. The evening featured America's current reigning soprano Renee Fleming in fully staged acts from Verdi's La Traviata, Massenet's Manon, and Strauss' Capriccio, in all of which she triumphed in voice and style.
For those of you who are not familiar with the Met's HD broadcasts, they are presented throughout the season at Sandhill Cinema 16. As devotees fill the NY opera house, the same matinee is broadcast live in High Def across America as well as many other countries. While the prices range around 20+ dollars, you get to see the cream of the operatic world around 20 feet tall. In addition, performer and conductor interviews and behind the scene set changes are presented which the NY crowd doesn't get to see.
