Indie Grits is finally here and it’s starting with a bang. Beginning at 3 o’clock this afternoon we’ll be presenting 53 different independent films over the next five
days ranging from an innovatively crafted history of the state of Florida to a sing-along
lead by animated dolls to octogenarian bowl makers and a musical about a boy
and his talking, inflatable dolphin.

The easiest way to start this would be with a grand statement about film, but we just can’t do it. There are endless
volumes extolling the virtues and vices of the cinema, its artistic merits and
degenerate trashiness, it’s educational and political effectiveness and its
mind-numbing tendencies. The fact of the
matter is, film is a lot of different things to different people at different
times and in different settings. Any
